I’ve been busy doing a little bit of everything. Have you ever started a project to clean out a closet and next thing you know you’re doing 10 other things and the closet never got clean? That’s kind of how I felt.
I’m now focusing on building WordPress websites and connecting all the pieces that go to the website.
What does that mean for you?
If you don’t have a website, this is a great time to build one. More people are going online than ever before!
If you have a website, it’s time to add connections to your calendar, email, lead forms, web shop, and more.
What do you need to build your first website?
To start, you need 3 things to build your website. A name, a place to store the files, and a purpose.
You need a name for the website, this will be the domain name. Make it easy to remember and not too long. You may need to think of a few in case your first choice is taken. A lot of people choose to use their name for their website. This might work if your name is easy to spell and not so common that it’s already taken. You could also use your name and what you do. For example, JoanDavisCoach.com. That makes it unique and easy to remember.
The website needs a home. This is called a web host. You’ve probably heard of a few hosts like GoDaddy and Bluehost. Hosting companies range from just the basics to a full website with a membership, courses, email, and more. Before you sign up for that 2-year deal make sure you know what it includes and what it doesn’t include.
Your website should have a purpose. Why are you creating this website? Are you planning to write a regular blog? Do you want to create a shop and sell products? Is it a place for customers to read about who you are? Maybe it’s a way to grow your email list or sell your new course. Decide on a purpose and build your website around that.
Why should you build a website when there’s Facebook and Instagram?
Unlike social media you own your website and your email. You don’t have to worry about a big company making changes that you don’t control. What’s working for you today on Instagram could suddenly disappear tomorrow if the company decides that feature is no longer supported.
Do you have a website that needs a little bit of work?
Just like your house needs a good Spring cleaning every so often, your website does too. Get a tech audit of your website to see how you can make improvements that can help your business grow.
